Join us as we chat with the founders of Urban Market Bags to hear about the inspiration behind the new Ocean 3-pack.

Why did you start Urban Market Bags? We were sitting by the ocean and talking about how sad we felt that something so powerful and beautiful was being polluted and destroyed by garbage, particularly plastic garbage. And, it was a bit of an aha moment actually, when we decided we could make a change for the better.

We knew that to make a change in plastic waste, we had to start off by focusing on one thing that could have a huge impact, which is how we decided on tackling the egregious plastic bag. And in order to eliminate the need for plastic bags, we had to offer a reusable bag that would be truly reusable, easy to use and stand the test of time. So we did.

What is the inspiration behind the new Ocean 3 pack and how did you choose the colors? As a tribute to the ocean being the origin of our company and to the courageous and intelligent clean-up efforts that are underway, we named our new 3 pack Ocean. For the color selection, we built a Pinterest board with colors of the ocean to help guide us and the selections became clear.

What are some ocean clean-up efforts that you are most hopeful about? We are hopeful about the efforts of Dutch inventor, Boyan Slat and his company, The Ocean Cleanup that is vigorously working to clean up the devastating amounts of garbage in our oceans, including the Great Pacific Garbage Patch between Hawaii and California, which reportedly is littered with over 80,000 tons of plastic. We are also hopeful about the work of other organizations such as Bye Bye Plastic Bags, founded by teen sisters, Melati and Isabel Wijsen from Bali, which is mobilizing teens around the world to power the global movement to rid of plastic bags for good. Finally, we have to remain hopeful about the habits of people and a desire to do their part as we see more and more customers finding Urban Market Bags from all around the country and world.

What are your plans going forward? We plan to continue helping people with their efforts by making the highest quality, most durable, practical and easy to use, reusable bags out there. Our goal is for Urban Market Bags to be an essential accessory in everyone’s daily life, similar to your wallet, so that you will never be without your bags again.®
