The holidays can be joyful, nostalgic, and somewhat chaotic! And the prospect of figuring out gift giving can be expensive and on the daunting list. So, this year we are trying something a little different with our gift giving. These tips are geared towards helping you simplify, give with intent and even consume less!
Make a List
It seems basic but if you are one that finds peace with organization, this has to be the first step. From teachers, party hosts, and hairdressers to friends and family, put it all down in one place.
Set Your Budget
Again seems obvious, but set your total budget. This simple agreement with yourself will save your pocket book and give you guidance on what you are able to do. Also, remember to set a little aside for unknowns and ease your holiday stress.
Make, Get or Do
Once you have a list and set your budget, decide if this is a year you want to make things, do things or get things for your recipients. Doing things in bulk saves time!
One Gift, Everyone on Your List
Whether you end up in the make, get or do category, think of things that would be perfect for multiple people — or even everyone on your list! Who wouldn’t love a mason jar loaded with homemade granola, a convenient and stylish pack of reusable bags, or the offer of pet-sitting or car-washing services? Sign me up!
Consume Less
Giving is one of life’s greatest joys. But that doesn't have to mean go out and over consume! Be intentional with your gift list. If you are buying, buy something that is made to last. If you are making, consider reusable containers as part of the gift. And if you are doing, make sure your “service” keeps you on track with your budget. For other ideas on underconsumption read here!
